THE LONDON UNDERGROUND IN FILMS & TELEVISION

by Nick Cooper © 2004-2008

For any film or television writer or director, nothing identifies a location as being in London quicker than the inclusion of an Underground station or train. Some have chosen real examples, whether as originals, stand-ins, or back-lot and studio sets; others have created their own, again with a variety of methods of realisation. A few have even used more unfamiliar examples of Underground architecture to portray something different.... or even quite alien....

For more on general British locations used in films, check out John Tunstill's Reel Streets site.

PROSPECTIVE SITE UPDATES & ADDITIONAL
COMMENTARIES WILL APPEAR ON MY BLOG (LAST UPDATED 08/08/08)

NOTE: The "Grey Area" classification is for certain stations previously defined as "Fictional," as well as some new ones. Essentially this section is for stations that are clearly fictional, but for which the writers or producers used - almost certainly unknowingly - names that were previously used for real Underground stations, or which were used subsequent to the production in question.

European dating convention used: DD/MM/YY.
